Win a first prize of €1,000 and a writing residency for short fiction up to 2,000 words

The Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize's mission to give visibility to its winners means that it has partnered with fourteen literary and artistic institutions to offer prizes and opportunities.

The winner receives €1,000, a week's writing retreat at Civitella Ranieri Foundation and a consultation with a literary agent from Andrew Nurnberg Associates.

Two runners up receive €500. All shortlisted writers are published in a limited edition book that will be launched at the Desperate Literature Short  Fiction Prize Salon in Madrid. They will also be offered publication with a partner journal (3:AM, Helter Skelter, The London Magazine, Open Pen, Prototype, Hotel, Gorse and The Second Shelf), participation in a Desperate Literature Salon in London, Edinburgh or Madrid and participation in the Rizoma Film Festival.

One shortlisted winner will be selected for a week's writing residency at Casa Ana in Andalucia.

Enter original, unpublished short fiction up to 2,000 words.

The entry fee is €20 for the first entry and €10 for any subsequent entries.

The closing date is 15 March.
