Kirsty McDonald is the 26-year old single mother of two daughters, one of whom is severely disabled. Kirsty is fighting cervical cancer and in the last 18 months has undergone a hysterectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She's been given the all-clear twice, but her cancer has returned in an aggressive form and Kirsty has been told that it's terminal.

Kirsty is the cousin of Fiona, one of the founders of the 1000 Word Challenge. All entry fees from this quarter's 100 Word Challenge will go to help fund alternative treatment for Kirsty and support her and her daughters.

The competition theme is 'Here we go again'. The prizes are £150, £75 and £50. The entry fee is £5 per story.

The closing date is 30 November.
