Creative writing award: 2023-2024 Footnote x Counterpoints Writing Prize

Footnote Press and Counterpoint Arts have joined forces to create a new £15,000 writing award for writers from refugee and migrant backgrounds

The award launched on 19 June, at the start of Refugee Week UK.

The new prize is for narrative non-fiction that is centred around ideas of displacement, identity and/or resistance. Any writer, published or unpublished, with a refugee or migrant background living in the UK is eliigible to enter. Writers entering the award do not need to have completed their manuscript.

The winner of the award will receive a £5,000 advance against publication by Footnote Press. the winner and two runners up will have the opportunity to got on a week-long writing residency at Dartington Hall, and five shortlisted writers will be invited to read and  discuss their work at an event at Southbank in 2024. Footnote will also be working with literature development agency Spread the Word to provide ongoing support and development for the winning writers.

The closing date to submit is 1 October.
