The annual celebration encourages children to explore the joy of reading
All school children in the UK and Ireland are entitled to a £1 Book Token, which can be exchanged for any of the eight World Book Day titles.
World Book Day events have seen children attending school dressed as their favourite fictional character to raise funds for Book Aid International, which distributes books donated by UK publishers to libraries in sub-Saharan Africa. Last year children's efforts raised more than £75,000.
A World Book Day Writes of Passage poll to find the 50 most life-changing books for teenage readers was topped by The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
