The Bronte Society's Creative Competition is for short stories, poems and illustrations on Bronte-related themes

• The short story competition is for fiction created around a minor character in one of the seven Bronte novels.

• The poetry competition is for unusual personal responses to one of the Brontes' novels or poems.

• The illustration competition is for black-and-white illustrations of a specific scene, as described in one of the novels.

There are prizes in each Creative Competition category of £500, £250 and £100. The fee for each entry is £10.

The closing date is 31 January 2014.

The Bronte Society is well known for its creative responses to the work of literature's most famous family, with legendary poet and musician Patti Smith performing in Haworth next Friday, and in October, an exhibition, Capturing the Brontes, of work by artist Charlotte Cory (pictured).
