Geoff's book Otherwise Known as the Human Condition won the NBCC Criticism Award

Otherwise Known as the Human Condition: Selected Essays and Reviews (Graywolf Press) was praised by NBCC judges as: 'celebrating critic par excellence who showed his love of his various subject in tour-de-force language.'

The NBCC Awards honour the best literature in English in six categories: autobiography, biography, criticism, fiction, non-fiction and poetry. They are the only US awards for which non-US authors are eligible, and the longlists, shortlists and winners are selected by the critics in the Circle.

The awards are given annually, in March.
