The five shortlisted writers were announced on BBC Radio 4's Front Row

The fourteenth BBC National Short Story Award 2019 shortlist was announced on Friday 6th September on BBC Radio 4 Front Row. Award-winning writer Lucy Caldwell is joined by former bookseller Lynda Clark, charity worker Jacqueline Crooks, and new voices Tamsin Grey and Jo Lloyd, whose stories explore sexual politics, intolerance, community and immigration. You can read extracts from each shortlisted story every day next week here, starting on Monday, and the winner of the £15,000 prize will be announced on Tuesday 1st October.
