Use a door as a portal to a new piece of flash fiction in our latest creative writing exercise

Set the timer for five minutes and jot down a list of all the doors you’ve gone through in your life – for example all the houses you’ve lived in, school, a religious building, holiday cottages, castles you’ve visited, hospitals, cafes and restaurants.

Set the timer for another five minutes and jot down ideas about books you’ve read that draw you into another world via a doorway of some sort – for instance The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Think about computer games and paintings that could be a portal.

For your last five minutes, pick one of the ideas and draft a flash fiction story.
