Coffee break exercise: Songs

b623758f-26df-42bf-94c9-5092e33887d1

Let an old song suggest a new story in this week's creative writing exercise

Set the timer for three minutes and jot down a list of songs that have meant something to you at different times of your life.

Choose one of them. Listen to it again. Then set the timer for five minutes and free-write the story behind the song. What is it about? Who is it about?

For the remaining time jot down some ideas about what happens next. How does your story end?

Read sound advice, and some inspiring thoughts, about writing from saga author and long-term WM subscriber Mary Gibson - she's the star interview in the March issue!
