For this festive creative writing exercise, add an unexpected element to a Christmas story

This year most of us have seen plans turned upside down by world events. So today's Christmas writing exercise is about creating a traditional story (in whatever genre) that is interrupted by something out of the blue.

Jot down a few ideas of how a traditional Christmas story might be interrupted by something unexpected. It's up to you what kind of story you write, or if it's factual or fictional. The only requirement is that something happens in the story that turns it on its head.

Once you've decided on your story and how it's interrupted, write it for 20 minutes.
