Glastonbury isn't happening this year but we can still be inspired by festivals for our creative writing exercise

For a few minutes, make notes about what the word 'festival' suggests to you. What kind of festival would you feel most at home at? Book festival? Arts festival? Music festival? Food festival? Cultural festival? What is is about your chosen festival that appeals to you? Perhaps you have significant memories connected to a festival you've attended. Or maybe festivals aren't for you – in which case, make notes around that.

Whatever aspect of festival life piques your imagination, free-write around the idea for five minutes.

For the next ten minutes, start writing a new piece, using your chosen festival as the backdrop.
