Convey the atmosphere and energy of a crowd in this week’s creative writing exercise
Decide what kind of crowd you’re writing about. Are they awaiting the arrival of a significant person, or event? Are they at a sporting event, or a concert? A rally? A protest? Why have they gathered? What’s the collective mood of your crowd? Are they happy, angry, sad – or something else?
Write a passage of prose or poetry about your crowd - what its purpose is, and what kind of energy it generates. Decide whether you are inside the crowd, so involved with its mood, or a more neutral observer.
Once you’ve established the reason for your crowd and a sense of what it feels like, you could create the persona of an individual within that crowd and write about the way they’re affected by the collective energy.
