Set up a situation and then change the expected narrative in this week's creative writing exercise
Spend a couple minutes imagining a scenario where you or a character have arranged something - a meeting, an outing - anything where the outcome looks reasonably certain to happen. Scribble down notes for the set-up and the characters taking part in it.
How spend a couple of minutes thinking of a way to throw the proposed plan of course. This could range from minor (ie, your character gets a better invitation) to major (ie, your character gets abducted by aliens on their way to the meeting).
Decide what their new plan will be.
Write the first page of a new story, starting either with the original set-up, or the resulting change of plan scenario.
