How could a reckless ending inspire your storytelling? Find out in this week's creative writing exercise
Imagine a scenario where someone is walking away from something without giving themselves the possibility of going back. It could be a relationship, a job, a family situation, or any context where there's an irreconcilable split. For five minutes, make notes on who is facing this situation, what the situation is, and what breakdown of communication may have created it.
For the next ten minutes, write an interior monologue in which a viewpoint character freely expresses themselves about the split, why it happened and what they wish they could do about it, and what prevents them from doing that. Could there be a happy resolution? What steps might the character take to deal with the situation?
Does your fiction include a fight scene? Follow this advice so that it's lean, mean and fighting fit!
