Coffee break creative writing exercise: Colours

a4ae1ef8-a126-44c0-8343-9c82b523f72b

You don't need to spend hours on your writing to feel creative. Fuel your imagination wherever you are with our 15-minute coffee break exercise.

Set your timer for five minutes. Choose a colour – this could be one you love or one you’ve never liked. ‘Free-write’ (this means write as quickly as you can) jotting down everything you can think of about the colour. Don’t worry about spelling, punctuation or anything making sense.

For your next five minutes, read through what you’ve written and underline any words or phrases you particularly like.

For your remaining five minutes, draft a poem or create the first few paragraphs of a story.
